Started September 2006
The aim of the project will be for a professional reminiscence drama worker to engage staff and service users in a process of creative orientation, exploring past, present and future The process will be proactive and seek to take the elders on a journey exploring the social history of the group within a context of the present; revisiting places of interest in active life theatre.
Service users and staff will visit places of interest identified by elders and explore themes relating to sense of place both in the past and marking the journey to the present. Previous trips undertaken by the Grange exploring similar issues have uncovered a wealth of emotions, which act as a catalyst for exploratory dialogue, in some cases encountering people who remember particular service users. The project will culminate in the creation of a new piece of theatre, to be performed by the service users and shared with family, friends and the wider community.
The process will be documented on video, encouraging participants to be involved in the filming process.
Staff will engage in the project from start to finish and will be dedicated to professional development via the process, learning skills from the artist which will remain in the Centre following the project completion.
