Images of a stained glass window and doors that were produced by elders who attend the Grange Centre. Working with Brian Addison artist. They spent a year making two doors in their main hall which accessed the bar area and another window depicting the river Tyne for one of the lounges. The famous angel of the north and the blinking eye bridge are depicted. The ideas of the imagery came through discussions and listening to recollections of memories and life experience of service users staff or visitors. Much of it was developed through ongoing discussion and criticism as the project progressed.
The Doors to the Bar
The glass cutting, painting and construction was largely carried out on site by a group of loyal and hard working service users, most of whom had little or no previous experience of any skills involved and yet persevered in completing a large and quite difficult project.
The same format was used in the design and production of the doors but this also included input from the customers who use the Social club. It was intended that this would link the two different groups who use the building. The doors represent the Grange today and the foundation it was built upon, as well as the interests of some of the service users and customers of the bar.
