Service users have enjoyed working with Jane Hufton Ceramicist throughout the previous year, creating small individual items that they have taken home, making a mosaic sign, and covering some of the walls in the main entrance. It was our aim that the residency would enable service users to continue work alongside this ceramic artist with the aim of introducing ceramics to the outside of the building. This initiative developed skills already built up with service users of the Grange together with members of the general public and local schools to who work together towards a joint concept in public art.
This project had the service users of the Grange at its core. The older people actively participated at all stages of the project from the design phase through to the actual fabrication of the mosaic/tile installation.
Through this creative initiative, older people gained more self-confidence and self worth and were encouraged to actively contribute to the process both mentally and physically.
